Springboard 'Future Chef' competition.
Nuuman Khalid Yr 9 tells us of Challney's entry in the 'Future Chef' competition 2015.
On 9 November Mobeen Ahmed and I were selected to take part in the Springboard ‘Future Chef’ Competition. ‘ Future Chef’ helps young people aged 12 to 16 develop their cooking skills by holding competitions in which students show off their abilities to cook two main courses in a time limit of 90 minutes. Our regional competition was held at Bedford College.
Tough and frustrating, it was a frantic affair with all competing chefs determined to do their best. The kitchen itself was very different to ours and, in addition, the college had a restaurant where students served food to members of the public.
Although Mobeen and I managed to produce our courses within the deadline; we did not win, losing out as we did to a much more experienced Year 11 chef.
Two chefs from top local hotels were the competition judges so it was interesting to hear their feedback as we intend to enter again next year. Hopefully, then, we might win.
It was a great experience with working in a real kitchen providing valuable experience for anyone hoping to be a professional chef.
